Welcome to the official singer/songwriter home page of Garry Stickel. Garry’s homespun music encapsulates the story of someone who’s spent most of his life writing and singing about life - the normal and mundane, as well as the unusual and memorable. A self taught writer, he learned from some of the best like most of us did – the early days of rock & roll exploded with newfound artists utilizing the genre to create some of the most profound and honest expressions of their feelings and observations the world had ever known. As the music exploded on the radio, Garry absorbed the talents and thoughts of the likes of Bob Dylan, James Taylor, Jackson Browne and others. And then he began to explore his own feelings and observations using at first poetry, and then pouring himself into the fine art of songwriting. Over all these years, he’s expanded his musical horizons - as a Worship Leader, Folk Artist and Rock Band mate, all the while stretching and exploring new ways to create and communicate.
This site features Garry as a solo artist and songwriter - just him and his acoustic guitar, mostly. He’s written and performed within band settings over the years, but this site explores his solo work.
Here’s a sample of a lyric from a song he wrote called “Songwriter’s Dream”. It summarizes what he’s attempting to do:
“Oh, what a fine thing it would be – if I could make a difference now,
Somehow, my guitar and me.
Somehow – that’s my Songwriter’s Dream”
